We had the honor on the 27th April to acknowledge receipt of your letters of the 14th December last, informing us that the Right Honorable the Earl Grey would not sanction any further grant of money towards
the
completion of St John's Church.
We beg now to reply to the reasons
which
for this refusal, have been twofold:-
1st The

supposition that the Building had been commenced with the knowledge
on the part of the subscribers that the fund
